Levittown was built between 1952 and 1958 as one enormous project — around 17,000 houses in a handful of repeating models, laid out across former Bucks County farmland in named sections. Almost every house is the same age, the same construction and on the same slab or crawl detail, which means they are all reaching the same problems at the same time. PestAlly is a free service connecting Levittown homeowners with independent, licensed local pest control pros working Bucks County.

Why Levittown

Why Levittown Homes Get Hit Harder Than Most

A whole community built in six years now ages in step, and that is genuinely useful to know. The original slabs, sill plates, crawl detailing and drain laterals across an entire section are the same vintage, so when one neighbour finds carpenter ants in a wet sill or termites at a slab expansion joint, the houses either side very often have the same detail in the same condition. Original single-pane frames, worn door thresholds and 1950s soffits give rodents entry at the same points across whole streets.

The rest is south-eastern Pennsylvania’s pest list. This is spotted lanternfly country — the insect was first found in the United States in Berks County in 2014 and Bucks County has been inside the quarantine area since — and it is also where the brown marmorated stink bug first arrived. Eastern subterranean termites are active here, and Pennsylvania reports more Lyme disease cases than any other state, which makes the mature tree lines around these sections matter.

Common Questions

Levittown Pest Questions, Answered

What is the spotted lanternfly and does it damage houses?
It does not damage buildings, and that is worth saying plainly. It was first found in the United States in Berks County in 2014 and has spread across south-eastern Pennsylvania since. It feeds on trees — particularly tree-of-heaven, but also maple, walnut and grapevine — and excretes honeydew that draws wasps and grows sooty mould on cars, decks and furniture. The nuisance is real; the structural risk is not.
What should we do about lanternfly egg masses?
Look for them from autumn through spring on tree trunks, fence posts, garden furniture, firewood and vehicles — flat grey patches that look like dried mud. Scrape them into a bag with alcohol or hand sanitiser and dispose of them. Also check anything you are moving out of the area, because that is how it spreads fastest.
Our neighbour had termites. Should we be worried?
In Levittown, more than in most places. These houses were built in the same few years to the same detail, so slab expansion joints, sill heights and drainage are near-identical along a street. If a neighbour has activity, the conditions at your house are probably comparable. That makes an inspection a sensible response rather than an alarmist one.
Ticks in Bucks County.
Pennsylvania reports more confirmed Lyme disease cases than any other state, so this is one place the standard advice genuinely matters. Ticks wait in leaf litter and at the edges where lawn meets trees or hedgerow, not in open grass. A mown, treated buffer at that boundary and a full body check after being outside are the two measures that count.
Stink bugs indoors all winter.
Brown marmorated stink bugs, which arrived in Pennsylvania before anywhere else in the country. They mass on warm south and west walls in autumn and push through gaps at windows, siding and utility penetrations to overwinter in wall voids, then reappear on mild days. Vacuum rather than crush them, and seal the exterior gaps the following August.
